
LUCENA CITY — Local governments in Taytay, Rizal, and Atimonan, Quezon, have urged residents to take precautionary measures after both areas recorded dangerous heat index levels on Tuesday.
In an advisory posted on its Facebook page around 2:30 p.m., the Atimonan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the coastal town along Lamon Bay registered a heat index of 43°C at about 1:57 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Taytay Public Information Office reported that the town’s heat index, or “real feel” temperature, reached 42.81°C as of 10:14 a.m.

Authorities warned that prolonged exposure to extreme heat may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke, prompting reminders for residents to take necessary precautions.
In Imus City, Cavite, local officials also advised the public to observe safety measures after the heat index reached 40.4°C as of 1 p.m.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) defines the heat index as a measure of discomfort experienced by the human body due to the combined effects of air temperature and humidity.
Pagasa classifies heat index levels into four categories: “caution” (27°C to 32°C), “extreme caution” (33°C to 41°C), “danger” (42°C to 51°C), and “extreme danger” (52°C and above).

The weather bureau said peak heat conditions are typically logged from midday to late afternoon.
Authorities advised the public to limit outdoor activities during peak hours, stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid leaving children or pets inside parked vehicles. and regularly check on vulnerable groups, which include children, senior citizens, and those with medical conditions.

Fair weather is expected across most parts of the country on Tuesday, although isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may still occur later in the day, according to Pagasa.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country are forecast to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening./coa
