Meanwhile, the DRRMO in Imus City, Cavite, recorded a heat index of 41.9°C at 2 p.m., up from 40.6°C an hour earlier.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the heat index refers to the temperature perceived by the human body when air temperature is combined with humidity.
Pagasa classifies heat index levels as “caution” (27°C to 32°C), “extreme caution” (33°C to 41°C), “danger” (42°C to 51°C), and “extreme danger” (52°C and above).
Under the “extreme caution” category, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible, while prolonged exposure or strenuous physical activity may lead to heat stroke. Similar health risks remain under the “danger” category, with a higher likelihood of heat-related illnesses.
