
LUCENA CITY, Quezon– Despite rainy weather conditions, four localities in Cavite, Quezon, and Rizal recorded high heat index levels on Thursday.
In a public advisory posted on Facebook, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) of Atimonan, Quezon, reported a heat index of 43 degrees Celsius at 11:59 a.m., based on data from the local government’s Automated Weather Station (AWS).
The DRRMO of Imus City, Cavite, also reported a heat index of 43.2°C as of 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Public Information Office of Taytay, Rizal said the municipality’s heat index, or “feels-like” temperature, reached 41.27°C at 9:26 a.m.
In General Nakar, Quezon, located at the foot of the Sierra Madre mountain range in the northern part of the province, the heat index was recorded at 38°C as of noon.
Peak heat conditions are usually experienced from midday to late afternoon.
The heat index measures the level of discomfort experienced by the human body based on the combined effects of air temperature and humidity.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), heat index levels are classified as “caution” (27°C to 32°C), “extreme caution” (33°C to 41°C), “danger” (42°C to 51°C), and “extreme danger” (52°C and above).
Health authorities advised the public to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, wear light, breathable clothing, avoid leaving children or pets in parked vehicles, and regularly check on vulnerable individuals, including children, senior citizens, and those with medical conditions.

In its early morning weather bulletin, Pagasa said a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility has a moderate chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
The state weather bureau also said Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
