
MANILA, Philippines — Japan’s largest furniture and home-furnishing retailer Nitori will be opening more than a hundred stores in the country, according to First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
In a Facebook post, the First Lady said she had lunch on Monday in Makati City with Akito Nitori, founder and president of Nitori Co. Ltd., along with friends and members of the business community.
“He told us that they would be opening one hundred or more stores in the country,” Araneta-Marcos said.

“Excited to see how this growing partnership will create employment opportunities for our fellow citizens,” she added.

The expansion of Nitori in the country follows the state visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the first lady in Japan on May 26 to 29.

Nitori currently has seven stores in the country, with the latest branch at Ayala Malls Feliz in Pasig City.
It opened its first flagship store in Mitsukoshi Bonifacio Global City in Taguig in April 2024.
Then-Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual said Nitori was eyeing to expand to 50 stores in the country by 2032, to create more jobs for Filipinos and cater to the growing consumer base.
