Murder charge after man fatally stabbed in Auckland CBD

A man stabbed in central Auckland on Tuesday night has died.

He was found with critical injuries in Wellesley St at 6.45pm.

Emergency services were initially alerted to a fight involving several people known to each other.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Wilson, of the Auckland City CIB, said the victim was taken to hospital but died on arrival.

A 23-year-old had been charged with murder and was due to appear in the Auckland District Court on Wednesday.

A scene guard is in place while inquiries continue.

Wilson said no one else was being sought in connection with the death.
