The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Ondo State chapter, Fasua Gbenga, has commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa following Aliko Dangote’s affirmation of plans to develop a large-scale industrial and free trade zone at Olokola in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Dangote had, on Monday, during a visit to Aiyedatiwa in Akure, the state capital, said the renewed investment framework covers power generation, cement production, gas infrastructure and industrial manufacturing.
He said the proposed Olokola project, which is projected to begin in the last quarter of the year, would go beyond a conventional free trade zone and be equipped with power, water and logistics infrastructure.
Dangote’s latest commitment was a revival of a project conceived decades ago under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo but stalled due to reported issues of funding, land issues and regulatory disputes.
The ALGON chairman described the revival of the project as a landmark achievement that would redefine the economic future of Ondo State and create enormous opportunities for employment, industrial growth and wealth creation.
According to him, the return of Dangote to the Olokola Free Trade Zone “is not just a return of a renowned investor but a strong vote of confidence in the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa and his administration’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment.”

He added: “For many years, the Olokola project remained a symbol of unfulfilled expectations. Today, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, that narrative is changing.
“The return of Aliko Dangote signifies renewed hope, renewed confidence and renewed prospects for the people of Ondo State.”
Fasua, who is also the Chairman of Akure South Local Government Area, said the proposed investments in power generation, cement production, gas infrastructure, industrial manufacturing and the development of a modern industrial city would position Ondo State as a major economic hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
“Capital flows where confidence exists, and confidence thrives where leadership inspires trust. Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated that effective leadership can attract transformative investments capable of changing the economic fortunes of our people,” Fasua said.
He expressed optimism that the revival of the Olokola Free Trade Zone project would usher in a new era of industrialisation, job creation and inclusive economic growth for Ondo State.
