Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two elderly residents were injured after a house fire broke out in South Jakarta early on Wednesday, local fire officials said.
The injured residents were identified only by their initials, S (60) and M (70), South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency chief Asril Rizal said in a statement.
Authorities received a report of the fire at about 3 a.m. local time. Fourteen fire engines and 57 personnel were deployed to the scene, with firefighting operations beginning at 4:01 a.m.
The fire was fully extinguished at 5:30 a.m., Asril said.
The incident occurred when a family member was preparing to cook and turned on a gas stove, which allegedly exploded and triggered the fire.
The injured residents were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Officials suspect the blaze, which affected an area of about 395 square meters, was caused by a gas stove explosion. The extent of financial losses remains under investigation.
