Lil Nas X Hospitalized After Possible Overdose
Lil Nas X is sharing an update on his well-being.
Nearly a year after an incident involving police sparked concerns about his health, the “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” singer returned to social media and confirmed he has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“I've been in rehab for a few months, and since then I've been back at home, whether it's in Atlanta with my family or in Los Angeles with myself and friends,” he shared in an Instagram video June 17, “trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head."
Lil Nas X explained that he was hesitant to speak about his diagnosis with the mental health condition, which causes extreme highs known as mania and extreme lows with depression, per Mayo Clinic.
"When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for like the past few years, but I didn't want to admit to it," he explained, "because I didn't want to have to take medication, and have people think different of me."
The 27-year-old quipped, "I mean, I'm already black and gay. Damn god, give me like—come on, black, gay, bipolar? I'm living life on extreme hard mode."
As for how Lil Nas X is doing these days?
"But on a serious note," he continued, "I'm doing much better, I'm feeling better, I'm creating freely, and there's less fear in my heart, and I'm just smelling the roses."
In fact, Lil Nas X is even working on new music following 2021's Montero.
"I'm excited to go on this journey with you guys, this next chapter," he said. "Thank you guys for holding it down. And I love you, and all I want to do is continue to try to make you proud and make myself proud."

Last summer, Lil Nas X was hospitalized after an encounter with authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to E! News that authorities responded to a report of a “nude man walking in the street” on Ventura Boulevard around 5:50 a.m. on Aug. 21.
“Upon arrival, the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody,” the LAPD said in a statement. “He was transported to a local hospital for a possible overdose and placed under arrest for Battery on a Police Officer.”
Although authorities did not identify the man in question, he was identified as Lil Nas X (born Montero Lamar Hill) in photos and video obtained by TMZ, which seemed to show him walking down a roadway wearing a pair of white cowboy boots and matching underwear. At times, he appeared to stop and pose, often looking toward and pointing at the camera.

Hours before the incident, the Grammy winner wiped his Instagram feed and posted a series of photos and videos, including an apparent clip of a musical collaboration with Lil Jon. He also uploaded a selfie in which he wore a large fur coat and a tiara overtop a beige cowboy hat, completing his ensemble with bright red lipstick.
“OH NO sHES GONE MAD,” he captioned the since-deleted post. “CRAZY I TELL U!”
He was later charged with three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer, pleading not guilty to all.

Earlier in the year, Lil Nas X had been hospitalized after experiencing partial face paralysis, which he detailed on social media in April 2025.
“When I smile, this is me doing a full smile,” he said from the hospital in a since-deleted Instagram video as he laughed while grinning on the left side of his face. “It’s like, what the f--k? Bro I can’t even laugh right. Oh my God.”
The following day, the artist updated his followers on his progress, noting that he had regained the ability to form a “genuine smile.”
“I’ve been chewing a lot so I can get this muscle stronger,” he said in an Instagram Stories post as he motioned toward the right side of his face. “It’s much better.”
