MANILA, Philippines — Senior Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito co-sponsored Senate Resolution No. 447 urging the national government to ensure immediate and long-term government support for areas affected by a recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake, particularly in Sarangani, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental, and Davao del Sur.
“These lives are not mere numbers. These are lives and futures that were abruptly cut short by this disaster. Each one of them has a name, has a story, has dreams, and has loved ones left behind. They have children, spouses, siblings, friends, and countrymen we love,” Ejercito said in a mix of Filipino and English in his co-sponsorship speech.
The tragedy, Ejercito stressed, highlights the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters and underscores the need for stronger infrastructure, better planning, and improved disaster preparedness.

“That’s why I’m joining the call through this Senate resolution for the government to ensure immediate and long-term support for the rehabilitation and recovery of Mindanao,” Ejercito said.
“Let’s give a deeper meaning to the lives lost by ensuring that those left behind can start over again,” he added.
Ejercito also pledged support for rehabilitation efforts in his capacity as the newly elected chair of the Senate committee on finance.
“Yours truly will make sure that there will be support for bringing back order, security, and dignity for our brothers and siters in Mindanao who were severely affected by the disaster,” he said.
