Rove knocks Trump ‘narcissism’: ‘He’s making everything about him’

Republican strategist Karl Rove on Wednesday knocked President Trump for displaying signs of “narcissism,” citing the naming of buildings in Washington as just one example.

“Renaming the Kennedy Center is example No. 1. There are too many others. Aides feel compelled to stroke Mr. Trump’s ego constantly,” Rove wrote in an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal.

He cited aides singing Trump’s praises in public comments that suggest the president is the “greatest” in American history.

Rove questioned whether Trump could be counted as a better president than George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.

“Last month he posted a message referring to himself as ‘the man who some say is the Greatest President in History.’ Now he says the July 4 national celebration of America’s 250th anniversary will be ‘the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all,’” Rove wrote.

“For the thousandth time, he’s making everything about him, not the country. That may feed his ego but not his standing, especially with swing voters, whom Republicans need to keep the GOP’s congressional majorities,” he added.

Rove wrote that Democrats are putting their feet in their mouths as well by touting efforts towards affordability without offering a plan on how to tackle inflation or the economy.

However, unlike some other GOP strategists, Rove says Republicans have a chance of coming out of midterm elections with gains and managing to keep control of the House and Senate.

“The president’s unfavorability is at 40 percent. The Democratic Party’s unfavorability is below 37. So, who’s more, who’s less popular and how’s that going to affect the outcome?” Rove asked during a Fox News appearance earlier this month.
