The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the successful conclusion of the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) ahead of the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The commission disclosed that 1,028,929 PVCs were collected by registered voters across the state, representing 97.1 per cent of the total 1,059,360 registered voters.
INEC, in a statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, said the figure represents a slight increase from the 97.0 per cent collection rate recorded during the 2023 election cycle.
The commission also revealed that the number of registered voters in the state increased from 987,647 in 2023 to 1,059,360 in 2026 following the suspension of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise on May 15 and the subsequent clean-up of the voters’ register.
Haruna said the PVC collection exercise, initially scheduled to end on June 11, was extended to June 14 after consultations with stakeholders at a meeting held in Ado-Ekiti saying it successfully processed requests for replacement voter cards, noting that 14,406 applications were received from voters whose cards were lost, damaged or defaced.
It added that all replacement PVCs were printed and made available to applicants, with most of them already collected.
The electoral body, however, explained that it could not implement the proposed downloadable voter card option for the Ekiti election because the required technological infrastructure had yet to be completed.
INEC said the innovation would be introduced in subsequent elections, particularly the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 2026 and the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, also assured of free, fair and credible poll in Ekiti State, ahead of the Saturday governorship poll.
Omoseyindemi, made the remarks during the distribution of sensitive materials to all the 16 local government councils in the state at the central bank of Nigeria, office, in Ado-Ekiti.
The REC described the distribution process as seamless and hitch-free, saying the distribution is intended to get to the location as early as possible.
