A 151-room hotel with 322 beds has been proposed on the site of the GasanMamo insurance building in Gżira.
The landmark round building sits on the corner of Msida Road and Enrico Mizzi Street, directly opposite the long-abandoned Empire Stadium.
According to plans submitted to the Planning Authority, the proposed three-star hotel would rise over 10 floors, including the ground floor, significantly changing the site’s current use.
The development would also include a rooftop bar and pool area for guests.
Planning documents state that the applicant intends to pursue ECO certification measures aimed at reducing the hotel’s environmental impact.
If approved, the project would add another sizeable accommodation establishment to Gżira, a locality that has seen significant tourism-related development in recent years.
The application is currently awaiting consideration by the Planning Authority.
