
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuano standout Nic Cabañero delivered another impressive all-around performance as Biñan Tatak Gel edged Meycauayan Marilao Gems, 70-64, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) on Saturday, June 20, at the Pola Gymnasium in Oriental Mindoro.
Cabañero finished with 18 points and came close to a double-double after collecting nine rebounds, along with three assists, two steals, and a block.
The former University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tiger and two-time UAAP scoring champion struggled from the field, converting only 7 of his 21 attempts for a 33.3 percent shooting clip.

Carlo Lastimosa matched Cabañero’s output with 18 points of his own, shooting an efficient 7-of-12 from the floor. He also added three rebounds and an assist to help steady Biñan’s offense.
Pamboy Raymundo chipped in 11 points and five assists, while fellow Cebuano Kenny Roger Rocacurva and Warren Bonifacio added six points each as Biñan improved to 11 wins against three losses.
Meycauayan leaned on Agem Miranda, who led all scorers with 15 points on top of three rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. Jeric Serrano and Shawn Kenneth Argente contributed nine points apiece, while Jimboy Pasturan and Joshua Guiab combined for eight points.
Biñan appeared in control after building a 63-55 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Meycauayan mounted a late push to trim the gap in the closing minutes. Felix Apreku Jr. delivered Meycauayan’s final basket as time wound down, but the Gems ran out of possessions as Biñan held on for the win.
The defeat dropped Meycauayan into the 10th spot with its 8-5 (win-loss) slate.
