The Kano State Hisbah Board has detained 16 persons, comprising six men and 10 women, during an operation targeting alleged social vices in parts of the state.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Mujahiddeen Aminuddeen, confirmed the arrests on Thursday.
He said the operation was carried out at El-Kanemy Suite along Yahaya Gusau Road, BUK Road, Danbare and Layin Shisha areas within the Kano metropolis.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended during raids conducted by Hisbah operatives as part of ongoing efforts to enforce the board’s regulations.
He added that all those arrested were first-time offenders and were undergoing counselling at the board’s headquarters.
“We are counselling them and also inviting their relatives. After the counselling sessions, they will sign undertakings not to engage in such acts again,” he said.
Aminuddeen said the board would continue to monitor the suspects and provide guidance aimed at helping them adopt more responsible lifestyles.
The Kano State Hisbah Board, which enforces Sharia-related regulations in the state, routinely conducts operations against activities it considers contrary to public morality.
