Govt prepares sports academies, multi-year funding plan

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is preparing a series of long-term strategies and flagship programs, including sports academies and a multi-year funding scheme, to strengthen the national sports ecosystem.

In an official statement issued in Jakarta on Monday, Head of the Indonesian Government Communications Agency (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, said the sports academies will serve as integrated training centers for young talent across a wide range of sporting disciplines nationwide.

Through this initiative, the government aims to establish a more structured system for talent identification, training, and athlete development from an early age. The program is intended to help produce a new generation of high-performing athletes.

The government has also prepared a long-term national training camp program. To ensure its sustainability, a multi-year funding scheme will be provided to support its operations.

This commitment to inclusive development also extends to Indonesian para-athletes. The government remains committed to strengthening the sports ecosystem for people with disabilities, including by providing post-competition competency training.

“The government will strengthen the development program by providing coaching certifications,” Qodari said.

He explained that these certifications are expected to create opportunities for athletes with disabilities to remain involved in sports after retirement, including as coaches for future generations of athletes.

The initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s emphasis on institutional synergy as a key driver of sporting success.

Qodari stressed that achieving success is not only about winning competitions today but also about preparing future generations of champions.

Previously, Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said President Prabowo fully supports a multi-year budget policy aimed at securing the future of national sports development and producing world-class Indonesian athletes.
