President Prabowo heads to East Java for infrastructure and NU events

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has departed for East Java Province for an official trip featuring ceremonial activities, including infrastructure inaugurations and two national-level religious events.

The Presidential Secretariat said in a statement that Prabowo, accompanied by a limited delegation, took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta around 9 a.m. local time. He is scheduled to spend one day in East Java.

He is set to begin the tour with a visit to Sampang District on Madura Island, where he is expected to symbolically inaugurate 1,151 kilometers of road sections built across various regions nationwide under a program governed by the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads.

The large-scale infrastructure initiative underscores the government’s commitment to accelerating road construction to improve connectivity, spur local economic growth, and ease the distribution of goods and services.

From Sampang, the president will travel overland to Bangkalan District, where he is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the National Conference of Islamic Scholars and the 2026 Grand Conference of Nahdlatul Ulama, organized by the Islamic Religious Institute of Syaichona Mohammad Cholil.

Nahdlatul Ulama is one of the two largest Islamic community organizations in Indonesia, alongside Muhammadiyah. Both are represented in Prabowo's Red and White Cabinet.

The two religious events in Bangkalan are expected to create crucial momentum to strengthen the role of Islamic clerics and scholars in safeguarding national unity and contributing to national development programs through ideas, input, and recommendations.

Accompanying President Prabowo on the tour are Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
