COTABATO CITY, BARMM, Philippines — A peacekeeping force has been deployed in Pahamuddin town in the Special Geographic Area (SGA) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to prevent the escalation of a “rido,” or clan feud, that left two people dead.
Members of the Joint Peace and Security Team (JPST), a peacekeeping mechanism composed of government security forces and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) members, joined police and village officials in Barangay Patot after a clash erupted last Sunday between the families of an estranged couple over a 2-hectare property reportedly given as dowry before their marriage.

Capt. Rafael Bataan, Pahamuddin police chief, said the couple’s separation and dispute over the land may have triggered the violence. Police said the husband sought to reclaim the property after the wife filed for divorce, which is allowed under Islamic law, citing incompatibility and misunderstandings.
