Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Indonesia is enjoying the highest rice and corn output in its history, underscoring the government’s all-out effort to achieve self-sufficiency in food commodities.
“Our rice and corn production has reached the highest levels ever recorded since the country’s founding,” he remarked at the main event of the National Farmers and Fishermen Week XVII in Gorontalo District, Gorontalo Province, on Wednesday.
In a speech livestreamed by the Presidential Secretariat, Prabowo attributed the landmark achievements to farmers, fishermen, and all parties involved in strengthening the national food sector, crediting them for their hard work.
The president stressed that the abundance of rice and corn reflects Indonesia’s growing capacity to achieve food self-sufficiency, one of his administration’s key priorities.
“This is the most significant feat we have ever achieved, and I am grateful that we are becoming self-sufficient in food,” he affirmed.
Prabowo further assured the people that Indonesia is now capable of independently meeting its need for certain strategic food commodities, notably rice and corn.
He described the development as the result of strong collaboration between ministries and regional governments, supported by police and military involvement in food productivity programs.
The president also extended appreciation to Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, and Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, citing their leadership in overseeing the national food security agenda.
Additionally, he thanked governors, district heads, and farmers in various regions nationwide for contributing to shooting up national food production.
Prabowo then asserted that self-sufficiency forms the foundation of national resilience, arguing that no country can survive without adequate food supplies.
"We are confident that our food self-sufficiency will not diminish after one year. We will remain self-sufficient in food for the foreseeable future," the president remarked.
