Anne Hathaway Is Pregnant, Expecting Baby No. 3 With Husband Adam Shulman
Tracee Ellis Ross is shutting down this American fiction.
After rumors circulated that the Black-ish actress was expecting her first baby, she cheekily addressed speculation while promoting her upcoming Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing.
“I don't have social media on my phone right now, and I kept getting texts, and people were like, 'Congratulations.' I'm like, 'On the play? Thank you!’” Ross recalled during a June 23 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “Well, apparently, it's swirling around, and it seems that people think I'm pregnant.”
The 53-year-old mused that she found the rumor “hilarious,” adding, “I am not pregnant.”
And considering Ross has never been pregnant, she joked she’s completely unfamiliar with the process—but not in the way you might think.
“I don't know how you get the preggers,” she added with a laugh. “Now, ‘the pregnant’ I think is different from just pregnant. I know how you get pregnant. But 'the pregnant' is a thing they make up online when it's obviously a slow news day.”
For most of her career, Ross has been “happily single,” and has often had to acknowledge where she stands on the idea of having a family.
“I literally have said to people, for real, no joke, 'Why don't you just get out of my womb?’” the Girlfriends alum told Vanity Fair in 2018. “Like, get out of my uterus. What are you doing in there? And why are you asking those questions? And what makes you think you can ask that?”
Despite what her detractors might think, the daughter of Diana Ross assured she is not “crying at home” about her relationship status.
“These are very big and very personal questions that aren't anyone's business but that somehow, like the right to choose, become fodder for public conversation,” she noted of the interest in her personal life InStyle in 2018. “Some of the ability to reflect on what I really want comes from pushing up against a society that shames me for not having the expected trappings.”

In fact, Ross pushed back on the Band-Aid society appears to make of being in a committed romance.
“Have I had to learn to make friends with loneliness? Yes,” she continued. “I think if I were in a relationship, it would be the same.”
As she put it, “I am very pleased with my existence these days.”
