The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP backed by the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that it is working to mobilise at least 5000 female youths ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the mobilisation is part of the structured mobilisation strategy that it is putting in place to drive its 2027 election campaign.
Speaking during the Inauguration of the PDP National Youth Leadership Consultative Forum for the Survival of Democracy in Nigeria and The PDP Female Youth Wing, at the party headquarters in Abuja, National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu said PDP is committed to mentoring young women and encouraging political participation from the grassroots.
He explained that women are some of the most effective mobilizers in politics, adding that they are often more consistent than men because they are more discipline.
Anyanwu noted that the current leadership of the party is under a young and energetic national chairman, urging participants at the gathering who were mostly women that “We must support him to succeed. Going forward, we are planning a structured mobilisation strategy. For example, if we engage female youths across all 27 local government areas in a state and mobilise at least 50 women per local government, we will build a strong political base.
“Our goal is to reach at least 5,000 female youths per state within the next three months before campaigns begin. They will be inaugurated in their respective states, and support such as training tools, laptops, and mobile devices will be provided to help them function effectively.”
He said the party is also working on grassroots structures, including polling unit movements to strengthen mobilisation. “They are many young women in tertiary institutions who are interested in politics, and it is your responsibility to reach out to them and bring them into active participation.
He said PDP remains the party that recognises and supports youth and women, saying that in the coming elections, “we expect you to help deliver our candidates at all levels—National Assembly, governorships, and state assemblies—so that you can benefit from true democratic dividends.”
On his part, Ibrahim Bala -Aboki, National Youth Leader, said the essence of the initiative is to reinvigorate the youth constituency of the PDP, galvanize massive grassroots mobilization, strengthen our connection with the Nigerian people, and rebuild the Party’s capacity to reclaim its rightful position in the nation’s political landscape.
“Today, the Consultative Forum has further evolved by creating a specialized platform dedicated to female youth mobilization, as it equally works on male youth restructuring.”
