MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday inspected the newly rehabilitated G. Araneta Drainage System in Quezon City.
The project is part of the government’s intensified flood mitigation efforts under the “Oplan Kontra Baha” program.
Marcos was accompanied during the inspection by Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.

“That’s good. It seems to be effective because I’ve talked to residents in the area. They said that before, the floodwater would rise above the second floor whenever it rained a bit,” Marcos said.
Marcos said the next concern residents need to address is establishing a proper garbage collection system.
“Because what happens here is that once the water comes in, it brings trash, and our drainage gets clogged again. So we will ask for help from the local government. We will request assistance from Mayor Joy Belmonte and see if we can create a system for continuous declogging,” he added.
“Now, water is no longer rising. And when water starts to accumulate here, it quickly recedes. Unlike before, it used to take a long time before they could even enter their place,” he also said.
