EDSA rally has no permit – MMDA GM Torre

MANILA, Philippines – The ongoing rally at the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue – People Power Monument has no valid permit, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III said.

Thousands of individuals gathered along Edsa and White Plains Avenue early Tuesday morning purportedly in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta who is set to face a plunder complaint over a campaign contributions case.

“There is absolutely no coordination and this rally has no permit,” Torre said in a dzBB intwerview.

Due to the volume of attendees, the White Plains Ave. and all lanes of Edsa northbound except for the bus lane were rendered inaccessible.

As of 9 a.m., the Quezon City Police District estimated the number of rallyists at around 9,000.

A simultaneous gathering is being conducted at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila. The Manila police said some 400 persosn gathered in the area. /gsg
