Sara Foster Defends David Foster & Katharine McPhee’s 35-Year Age Gap

Katharine McPhee Reacts to Chrishell Stause Calling Her Out on TikTok

Katharine McPhee is getting the best of David Foster.

While their 35-year age gap may raise some eyebrows, the “Over It” singer and the legendary producer are a perfect match, according to his daughter.

“Everyone has an opinion about something,” Sara Foster, 45, said on the June 30 episode of Let's Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari. “And you know what? They're like 12 years in and they are happy.”

And the D.E.B.S. star defended her dad and stepmom’s age difference, emphasizing that Katharine, 42—mom to 5-year-old Rennie with David—is an adult woman who can make her own decisions.

“She's a fully consenting lady, you know what I mean?” she continued. “This is not like some child bride. She is in her 40s.”

While their blended family may be unconventional, Sara has a great relationship with the American Idol season five runner up.

“She's really amazing,” the 90210 alum—who shares Valentina Evelyn, 15, and Josephine Lena, 10, with her ex Tommy Haas—noted. “I have to tell you she really is. It's not easy coming into this family.”

In fact, Sara acknowledged the challenges that Katharine has faced in stepping into the role of a stepparent when she married David in 2019, especially one with older stepkids. The CSI alum remarked that stepmothers have to toe a thin line between "wanting to show up as a motherly figure” and respecting their stepchildren’s biological parents.

“I am older than her,” she added. “I look at her as a sister, but like she is my stepmom. She's my dad's wife. So, I think it's normal for her to come in and kind of take over in certain [situations] and she really doesn't do that.”

As for David’s children outside of his relationship with Katharine, he has daughter Allison, 55, whom he reconnected with after giving her up for adoption as a baby; daughter Amy, 52, with ex-wife B.J. Cook; daughters Sara and Erin, 43, as well as son Jordan, 40 with ex-wife Rebecca Dyer. (He’s also stepdad to Brandon Jenner, 45, and Brody Jenner, 42, from his marriage to Linda Thompson as well as Gigi Hadid, 31, Bella Hadid, 29, and Anwar Hadid, 27, from his marriage to Yolanda Hadid.)
