Babies born in the U.S. during America’s 250th birthday celebration will be given a first-of-its-kind commemorative Social Security card, the Social Security Administration (SSA) announced Wednesday.
Millions of newborns born between July 2 and Dec. 31 will receive limited-edition cards featuring the official Freedom 250 logo in black ink.
The commemorative cards will function identically to standard Social Security cards.
“Freedom 250 is a celebration of America’s storied history and the monumental moments that have shaped our nation, including the creation of Social Security over 90 years ago,” SSA Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano said in a statement.
The design is exclusive to original cards issued through the agency’s Enumeration at Birth program during the qualifying six-month period. Babies born before July 2 or after Dec. 31, 2026, as well as anyone requesting a replacement card, will receive standard Social Security cards instead.
Cards will be produced at no additional cost to families or taxpayers, according to the agency. Parents do not need to apply or register separately for the cards and will receive them automatically through the standard birth registration process.
Freedom 250 is a public-private partnership created by the Trump administration. It is separate from the America250 organization created in 2016 by Congress to mark the nation’s history.
The rollout of the commemorative cards is the latest in a string of initiatives from the Trump administration marking America’s 250th birthday.
President Trump last week unveiled a limited-edition “Patriot Passport” featuring his likeness in the booklet. It adds to a broader push to put the president’s image and name on government buildings, programs and more.
