
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. honored former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ “extraordinary life” in a heartfelt birthday message to his mother, who turned 97 on Thursday.
In a social media post, Marcos wished his mother many more years surrounded by the family that loves her dearly.

“Few are blessed with the gift of celebrating 97 years. Fewer still are blessed to spend them surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who continue to draw strength from your love and guidance,” the president said.

“You have lived an extraordinary life. One that has witnessed history, shaped our family and left an indelible mark on our nation. Through decades of public service, you touched lives in ways that continue to be remembered,” he continued.
Marcos described the former first lady as the “heart” of their family and “the best Mum” they could ever ask for.

In a separate post, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos also greeted her “Mama Meldy” on her birthday.

Imelda, widow of dictator and ex-president Ferdinand Marcos Sr., was found guilty of seven counts of graft by the Sandiganbayan’s Fifth Division in 2018, but was not arrested due to her health and age. /das
