
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it is considering setting up help desks to handle cases of bullying in schools following the fatal school shooting incident in Tacloban City.
“The move is part of the PNP’s support system to the DepEd, which has been initiating measures to ensure the protection of all learners,” the PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement.

“This could be reinforced with the help desks through personnel from the Women and Children Protection Desk which is active in every police station,” added Nartatez.

The Tacloban City high school shooting, which resulted in the death of three students, was carried out by two other students, aged 14 and 15 who were allegedly bullied, according to the PNP.
In light of the incident, the PNP said it is intensifying its coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd).
“Our coordination with DepEd is continuously being done to provide the best protection to our learners and to make sure that all schools are safe and conducive to learning,” Nartatez said. /gsg
