Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works Ministry is targeting 97 percent of national roads to be in good condition by 2027 to strengthen connectivity, accelerate public mobility and logistics distribution, and support equitable national development.
During a working meeting with the parliament here on Wednesday, the ministry's Director General of Highways, Roy Rizali Anwar, said the target is based on the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
He stated that under the 2025-2029 RPJMN, the Directorate General of Highways is prioritizing efforts to improve road connectivity along major corridors and increase access to remote and border areas to drive growth and balanced development.
"Based on the indicators and targets for 2027, travel time along the main corridors of the national road network is targeted at 1.80 hours per 100 kilometers, while 97 percent of national roads are expected to be in good condition," Anwar said.
The Public Works Ministry is also targeting 73 percent of provincial roads, 61 percent of district roads, and 83.60 percent of city roads to be in good condition by 2027.
The government is also aiming to increase road accessibility in disadvantaged and border areas to 2.67 kilometers per 100 square kilometers to improve access to strategically important but isolated regions.
In the urban infrastructure sector, the Directorate General of Highways is targeting the cumulative development of 113 kilometers of urban roads to support smoother mobility in cities.
The government is also targeting 2,383 kilometers of operational toll roads by 2027 through investment and support from the state budget (APBN).
To achieve its 2027 Strategic Plan targets, the Directorate General of Highways has proposed a total budget of Rp89.07 trillion, which includes Rp3.02 trillion for management support and Rp84.07 trillion for connectivity infrastructure programs.
However, the directorate general's indicative budget ceiling has been set at Rp29.24 trillion, leaving a funding gap of around Rp59.83 trillion.
The ministry has therefore proposed an additional budget to strengthen national connectivity infrastructure programs.
