
MANILA, Philippines – Only 61 members of the general public will be allowed to observe the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, the impeachment court said on Thursday.
The impeachment clerk of court, also the Senate secretary, Renato Bantug made the announcement ahead of Duterte’s trial scheduled on Monday.
“A total of sixty-one (61) seats will be available to the general public for each trial day. Admission shall be on a first-come, first-served basis, determined by the order of successful registration through the Senate Visitor Management System (VMW),” Bantug said in an advisory.

According to the impeachment rules, the trial proceedings must be public to the option.
With this the Senate Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms established the VMS where non-Senate ID holders may register to enter the Senate premises.
Under the VMS, visitors must provide personal information and upload identification documents.
The registration for visitation will open at 2 p.m. on Sunday, a day before the trial itself.
“Everyone is expected to maintain proper decorum at all times and comply with all rules and regulations while inside the Senate premises,” Bantug added. /jpv
