Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria outlined the government's efforts to maintain a healthy telecommunications industry to accelerate the expansion of 5G networks in Indonesia.
One of the measures, he said, is adjusting the investment burden on industry players in line with current market conditions.
"We are trying to create a healthy environment and ecosystem by introducing regulations that take into account the condition of the telecommunications industry. We are also working to reduce regulatory costs," Patria said in a statement confirmed here on Friday.
According to him, a healthy telecommunications industry is a prerequisite for operators to continue investing in next-generation network infrastructure.
The government is therefore seeking to introduce policies that provide certainty for the industry while accelerating the country's digital transformation.
To that end, the government continues to monitor market competition to ensure operators have room to expand investment, improve network quality, and provide better services to the public.
"We want to ensure the industry continues to operate well with a healthy financial condition. We have observed a decline in revenue. But now, with three players, I think we can build a healthy telecommunications industry in Indonesia," he said.
Patria also reaffirmed the government's commitment to promoting fair competition in the telecommunications sector during a meeting with the president director and chief executive officer of Indonesian mobile operator XLSMART.
During the meeting, held on Thursday (July 2), he lauded XLSMART's commitment to accelerating the rollout of 5G networks in Indonesia.
According to him, expanding 5G coverage will strengthen digital connectivity while improving the public's experience in accessing high-speed internet services.
