NEW DELHI, July 3. /TASS/. Indonesian authorities are considering the expansion of the procurement program for BrahMos missiles of Russian-Indian production and acquiring another battery in addition to the already agreed delivery, The Tribune newspaper said, citing sources familiar with the progress of the negotiations.
According to them, India and Indonesia are likely to discuss the sale of additional supersonic BrahMos missile systems during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's three-day visit to Indonesia, which will begin on July 6.
Sources told The Tribune that Indonesia expressed interest in acquiring not only one battery of BrahMos missiles, which is mentioned in the procurement program approved in March of this year.
Indonesia has approached India with a request to acquire BrahMos missiles in 2025. A preliminary agreement was signed earlier this year. It is reported that the parties are working on a phased procurement plan that will include BrahMos missiles capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 290 km.
