SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” Season 5 Episode 4
The fifth and final season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” just introduced the young version of a pivotal character in the “Power” lore.
In this week’s episode, Kanan (Mekai Curtis) and Tiana (Asjha Cooper) are discussing the nature of their relationship, when Tiana tells him he doesn’t even know her real name. Naturally, he asks her what it is.
Her real name? Jarita, a.k.a the future mother of Kanan’s son, Shawn, in the mothership series.
With the reveal, Variety has learned that Jarita will continue as a guest star in the final season of “Raising Kanan” before she moves on to a series regular role in the upcoming sequel prequel (or prequel sequel) “Power: Origins.” The latter show is currently in production in New Jersey.
Jarita was previously played by Tasha Smith in Season 2 of “Power,” though the character served only a minor role in that series.
“Power: Origins” delve into the story of young Ghost, Tommy and Kanan as they make their way up the ranks on the streets of New York. Spence Moore will star as Ghost, along with Charlie Mann as Tommy and Zuri Reed as Tasha, alongside Curtis, reprising the role of Kanan. The first season will consist of 18 episodes.
Along with Curtis and Cooper, Season 5 of “Raising Kanan” also stars Patina Miller, Shameik Moore, Leslie Grossman, London Brown, Hailey Kilgore, Wendell Pierce, Erika Woods, Tony Danza, and Joe Pantoliano.
Along with the final season of “Raising Kanan” and “Power: Origins,” Starz is also currently prepping the “Power” sequel series “Power: Legacy,” which will star Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr.
Sascha Penn serves as showrunner and executive producer for Season Five of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and will showrun and executive-produce “Power: Origins,” from a pilot co-written by Penn and Courtney Kemp. The “Power” Universe series is executive-produced by Kemp, the creator and showrunner of the original “Power,” through her production company, End of Episode. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson executive produces through G-Unit Film and Television along with Mark Canton, through Canton Entertainment, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox, and Pete Chatmon. Lionsgate Television produces the shows for Starz.
