MANDAUE CITY, Cebu — Road crashes reported in Talisay City from January 1 to July 5, 2026, have already claimed 15 lives.
Jonathan Tumulak, head of the City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-TODA), expressed concern over the rising number of fatalities resulting from road accidents in the city.
“This year’s number of fatalities is higher compared to the same period in previous years,” Tumulak said in an “open letter,” which he posted on the agency’s social media page early on Sunday morning, July 5.
“Most of these tragic deaths were caused by reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol,” he added.

The latest road fatality involved an elderly woman who was struck by a passing motorcycle while crossing Natalio Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Linao shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday. She was reportedly on her way to board a tricycle bound for the Tabunok Public Market.
In a report, CT-TODA said the motorcycle rider, who is believed to have been intoxicated, was also hospitalized after being thrown from his motorcycle during the collision.
The motorcycle rider tested positive for alcohol after undergoing sobriety and chemical tests while being treated at the Minglanilla District Hospital.
Following his discharge from the hospital, he was taken into custody as authorities prepared to file charges against him.

Road safety
CT-TODA said the 67-year-old victim was the second elderly person to die in a road crash in the city this month.
“We at CT-TODA earnestly seek your cooperation in helping reduce — and ultimately stop — the increasing number of road crash fatalities on our roads,” Tumulak said.
“We also ask for your understanding and patience as we strictly enforce traffic laws and work closely with other government agencies to promote road safety and protect the lives of everyone using our roads,” he added.
