Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Padel Association (PBPI) is hosting two international padel tournaments, the International Padel Federation (FIP) Bronze Jakarta 2026 and the FIP Promises Jakarta 2026, from Monday through July 12, 2026.
Head of International Relations of PBPI Maximiliano Velasco Baratawidjaja said the two tournaments have attracted a total of 510 participants from 31 countries across Asia and Europe.
"This is the largest international padel tournament ever held in Indonesia, as it combines two events, namely the FIP Bronze for adults and the FIP Promises for juniors across the 12, 14, 16, and 18 age categories," he said during a press conference here on Monday.
He said that the tournaments are open competitions, allowing eligible players to register and compete in both the men's and women's categories.
"For those who have previously competed in FIP tournaments, earning additional ranking points will be crucial for qualifying for higher-level competitions in the future," Maximiliano, who also serves as the Tournament Director of FIP Competitions in Indonesia, said.
He added that accumulating FIP ranking points is essential for athletes seeking to improve their world rankings. Higher rankings increase their chances of securing direct entry into international tournaments as seeded players.
For Indonesian participants, these ranking points will also assist PBPI in monitoring the progress of promising players who have the potential to join the national team in the future.
A strong competitive record also provides added value for athletes who are seeking sponsorships, which can provide access to better training programs and participation in more international tournaments.
Maximiliano expressed his hope that the international tournaments would provide young Indonesian athletes with valuable competitive experience while collecting FIP points vital for the development of their careers.
The FIP Bronze tournament features more than 200 male and female players from various countries, including Spain, Mexico, Argentina, and Kazakhstan, alongside the Indonesian athletes. Meanwhile, the FIP Promises draws hundreds of junior players.
The tournaments begin with the qualifying rounds, before advancing to the main draw on Friday (July 10).
The competition will continue with the round of 16 and quarterfinals on Saturday (July 11), before concluding with the semifinals and finals on Sunday (July 12).
