Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto welcomed expanded financial cooperation with India on Tuesday, highlighting faster talks on a cross-border QR payment system alongside broader trade, energy and technology partnerships.
Speaking alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace, Prabowo said discussions on the Cross-border QR Payment Linkage had made encouraging progress.
"The system is expected to improve transaction efficiency while strengthening the resilience of the financial sector," Prabowo said.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to deepen economic cooperation, which Prabowo described as a key pillar of Indonesia-India bilateral relations.
The two countries are also accelerating discussions on an Indonesia-India Preferential Trade Agreement and reviewing improvements to the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement.
Prabowo said stronger economic cooperation is needed to respond to an evolving global landscape.
He also called for closer collaboration in energy security, including solar power projects, nuclear technology development and technology exchange.
Beyond economic and energy ties, Indonesia and India agreed to strengthen cooperation in health, culture, education and political affairs.
During the visit, Prabowo and Modi witnessed the signing and announcement of 16 cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding.
The agreements involve government agencies and companies across sectors including space exploration, defense, healthcare, agriculture, telecommunications and education.
