A close ally of former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and the 2023 PDP governorship candidate in the state, Mallam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ubandoma, a key stakeholders in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, was received into the APC by the party’s leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Senator Wamakko’s S.A on Media and Publicity, Bashar Abubakar.
Ubandoma, a former commissioner for finance and later secretary to the Sokoto state government under the Tambuwal administration, said he decided to join the APC because of what he described as Wamakko’s leadership qualities and the performance of governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.
He said the government’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development and other sectors convinced him that the APC remained the most credible platform for the continued development of Sokoto State.
Welcoming him into the party, Wamakko described the defection as a major boost to the APC and said it reflected the growing confidence political leaders have in the party.
He also assured Ubandoma and his supporters of equal treatment within the party, stressing that the APC remains open to all well meaning citizens committed to the unity, peace and development of Sokoto State.
