Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi took the opportunity during his visit to Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday, to pray at the sacred Hindu site for the prosperity of Indonesia and India.
“In this temple complex, there are sacred statues of Lord Shiva, Durga, and Ganesha. For centuries, devotees have worshipped at this place with deep faith and devotion,” PM Modi stated in a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the temple.
"Today, I have the honor of offering prayers and paying my respects at this holy site. This moment is one of the most sacred, memorable, and devotion-filled experiences of my life," he continued.
PM Modi said that visiting the biggest Hindu cultural site in Indonesia with President Subianto, whom he regards as his good friend, made the occasion more special.
“I prayed for the relationship between India and Indonesia to grow stronger, for the people-to-people relationship between our two countries to become closer, for our citizens to always be prosperous, and for India and Indonesia to continue to advance and prosper," he remarked.
On the same occasion, PM Modi also talked about the collaboration between the two countries to restore Prambanan Temple.
He believed that President Subianto had a clear plan about the restoration. He is confident that the project will be completed ahead of schedule before 2029.
PM Modi then revealed that President Subianto had asked him to return to Indonesia in 2029 for the inauguration of the restored Prambanan Temple. The Indian Prime Minister gladly accepted the invitation.
PM Modi's visit to Prambanan Temple is part of his state visit to Indonesia on July 6-8, 2026.
