The reconciliation of all aggrieved aspirants in the recent primary elections conducted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the country has begun.
A source within the party told Daily Trust on Wednesday that progressive governors and state party chairmen have been directed to set up reconciliation committees to bring aggrieved aspirants back into the mainstream.
The source said that while state chapters have been given a few days to complete the assignment, the national headquarters of the party will wade in if the crisis cannot be amicably resolved at the state level. He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has personally spoken with some of the aggrieved aspirants in an effort to reconcile them with the winners of the primaries.
Reports indicate that following this directive, Kwara—one of the states where the party has been engulfed in crisis—has set up a reconciliation committee headed by retired Col. AbdulWahab Lawal.
Speaking in Ilorin, the state capital, on Wednesday, the committee chairman appealed to aggrieved party members to embrace dialogue and reconciliation. He noted that the committee was constituted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the state APC Chairman, Mr. Sunday Fagbemi, to reconcile aggrieved leaders and members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The chairman admitted that though the task before the committee has its challenges, members remain optimistic that peace and harmony will be restored within the party. He described the disagreements as a “family affair,” noting that all parties involved remain loyal to the APC.
“We have listened to the various positions expressed publicly and are convinced that no member has abandoned the party,” Lawal said. “This is a family disagreement, and we believe it can be resolved through dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect.”
The chairman appealed to all aggrieved members to cooperate by opening their hearts to genuine reconciliation. He also urged party members to refrain from making inflammatory statements capable of escalating tensions
