Former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said only courageous politicians who are committed to serving the people rather than pursuing personal interests can join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal made the remark on Wednesday while receiving the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Hon. Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, into the ADC after he resigned his position and dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said politicians who genuinely believe they are working in the interest of the people and for the sake of God should not be intimidated from identifying with the ADC.
“Anyone who believes that what he is doing is for the people and for the sake of God, not for personal gain, should have the courage to leave any political party and join the ADC,” he said.
The senator alleged that the APC was intimidating politicians willing to defect to the ADC and making efforts to create disunity within the opposition party.
According to him, the ruling party now sees the ADC as its major political challenge.
Tambuwal also criticised the Tinubu administration over the country’s security situation, saying many Nigerians had becomae disillusioned with the APC because of persistent insecurity.
He commended Kalenjeni for resigning his position and joining the ADC without placing any conditions, describing the move as a sacrifice and a demonstration of commitment to the party’s ideals.
