VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — This city was placed on high alert and classes at all levels were suspended Thursday noon as rains from Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) and the enhanced southwest monsoon triggered flooding in several villages.
June Ray Valero, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) chief, said all 31 barangays are on heightened alert as persistent rains threaten flood- and landslide-prone communities.
Valero said he recommended the class suspension to Mayor Amie Galario to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel amid the unpredictable weather. Following the announcement, traffic built up in the city proper as parents rushed to pick up their children.

According to Valero, about 90 percent of the city’s barangays have experienced continuous rainfall since Wednesday, when Super Typhoon Inday entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The storm enhanced the southwest monsoon, bringing widespread rains across much of the country.
He noted that Valencia is particularly vulnerable as a catch basin for the Pulangi river system, which increases flooding risks during prolonged downpours.
Flooding was reported in Barangays Catumbalon and Dagat Kidavao, where affected residents were evacuated to designated centers. Floodwaters also inundated portions of Barangay Laligan but subsided by Thursday afternoon.
