A 25-year-old man who attempted self-immolation at Gate No. 3 of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwor is in critical condition and is being prepared for admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bir Hospital. According to Dr Piyush Dahal, one of the doctors involved in his treatment, the patient, identified as Ganesh Nepali, sustained extensive burn injuries and requires intensive care.
Plastic surgeon Dr Dahal said the man suffered severe burns to his face, neck, chest, both arms, and parts of his legs. An initial assessment indicates that approximately 60 per cent of his body has been burned. He said emergency treatment, medication, and necessary diagnostic procedures are currently being completed, and the medical team is coordinating with the anaesthesia department to transfer the patient to the ICU.
“His condition is very serious. He has sustained burns from his face to his chest, neck, arms, and legs. Around 60 per cent of his body has been burned. We are completing all emergency treatment procedures and preparing to move him to the ICU,” Dr Dahal said. According to Dr Dahal, the patient can speak slowly, but his condition remains critical. Doctors have begun intensive treatment while closely monitoring him for complications associated with severe burns.
“At the moment, he can speak slowly, but his condition is still critical. We have started all necessary medications, and he will continue to receive treatment in the ICU,” he said. Doctors said patients with extensive burn injuries face a high risk of infection, respiratory complications, severe fluid loss, and damage to other organs. As a result, the first 24 to 72 hours following such injuries are considered extremely critical.
