LIGAO CITY, ALBAY, Philippines — Police seized nearly P500,000 worth of suspected shabu from two alleged high-value drug personalities during an operation in Malinao, Albay, early Wednesday.
Police Colonel Noel Nuñez, Albay provincial police director, identified the suspects only by their aliases, “Leo,” 36, and “Tina,” 36, both residents of Malinao. They were arrested at around 12:35 a.m. in Barangay Estancia.

He said operatives from the Provincial Intelligence Unit, in coordination with the Malinao Municipal Police Station and the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, were conducting casing and surveillance operations when the suspects allegedly attempted to flee and bumped into a police vehicle.

“The suspects also allegedly threw drug paraphernalia into a grassy area in an apparent attempt to dispose of evidence. During a body search conducted in the presence of mandatory witnesses, 14 large and one medium heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu were recovered,” Nuñez said.
The seized drugs weighed about 72.5 grams and had an estimated street value of P493,000. Records also showed that “Leo” had a previous case involving a similar offense.

Charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being prepared against the suspects.
Brig. Gen. Erosito N. Miranda, Bicol police chief, said the operation reflects the police’s continuing campaign against illegal drugs in the Bicol Region.

“Every arrest of individuals involved in illegal drugs is a step toward building safer communities. Our duty does not end with law enforcement operations; we will continue to support initiatives that promote reform and rehabilitation for individuals who wish to return to the right path,” Miranda said. /cb
