Gurgaon: Four alleged shooters linked to the Deepak Nandal gang were gunned down by police in an encounter in the heart of upscale Gurgaon on Thursday night.Police said the shooters were among five gunmen who had fired shots at a businessman’s house in Sushant Lok-2, off Golf Course Road Extension.
The fifth shooter was injured.Three policemen also received bullet injuries in the exchange of fire. Police sources said the shooters had come to threaten the businessman’s family. The businessman had been receiving extortion threats from Nandal, who operates from abroad.Police said a crime branch team was sent to the spot following a tip-off about armed men travelling in a Scorpio. “By the time our teams reached the spot, the suspects had begun firing at the businessman’s house.
We asked them to surrender, but they opened fire at the team and attempted to flee,” police spokesperson Sandeep Turan said.The cops retaliated in self-defence and to prevent the accused from escaping, he said. During the exchange of fire, all five shooters suffered bullet injuries. They were taken to a private super-speciality hospital, where doctors declared four of them dead. .

The three injured cops were also admitted to hospital.
Their condition is stable, police said.Senior officers, including DCP (crime) and DCP (east), reached the spot soon after the encounter. Forensic experts and crime scene teams examined the area and collected evidence.Police are yet to confirm the identities of the accused. An officer said details would be shared after verification.
