CIDG: Marcoleta requests visits from Sara Duterte, Robin Padilla

MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Rodante Marcoleta was allowed only two visitors at the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PNPGH) upon his request, the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said on Friday, July 10.

Col. John Guiagui, CIDG Metro Manila unit director, said Marcoleta, who has remained confined at the PNPGH since his arrest on July 6, specifically requested visits from Vice President Sara Duterte and Sen. Robinhood “Robin” Padilla, aside from his legal counsel.

“So many people wanted to visit – supporters, friends, allies, and relatives – but out of all of them, only two were granted permission, Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Robin Padilla… This was a personal request from Senator Marcoleta, for those wanting to visit him, in addition to his legal counsel and attorneys,” Guiagui, speaking Filipino, said during an interview with the media at Camp Crame.

He further added that the CIDG observed strict visitation procedure and only permitted the two with respect to Marcoleta’s request and with the permission of the CIDG Director Police Major General Robert Alexander Morico II.

“We are implementing this restriction because it was a personal request from Senator Marcoleta, which was approved by our CIDG Director, Police Major General Moreno,” Guiagui explained in Filipino.

During a hearing on Marcoleta’s medical condition on Friday, the Sandiganbayan questioned the PNPGH for allowing visitors while the senator is under confinement for a mild pneumonia.

Guiagui reaffirmed that the CIDG will enforce stricter protocols regarding Marcoleta’s visitation requests.

“We will further restrict his/her visitors and strictly control who is allowed to enter his room,” Guiagui added. /jpv
