
MANILA, Philippines – The National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) has secured ISO certification, bringing the country’s fisheries research closer to international standards.
“The internationally recognized certification affirms that NFRDI’s quality management system meets global standards for delivering reliable, efficient, and continually improving services,” NFRDI said in a statement.

“For the public, it means greater confidence that scientific research guiding fisheries policies, resource management, and industry development is produced through rigorous, transparent, and standardized processes,” it added.

The Freshwater Fisheries Research and Development Center, one of NFRDI’s research centers in Taal, Batangas, received the same certification.
Representatives from TÜV SÜD PSB Philippines awarded the ISO 9001:2015 certification to NFRDI in a ceremony at its Quezon City office.
ISO 9001:2015, a globally recognized quality management standard, helps organizations improve performance and meet customer expectations.
NFRDI, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, said the certification advances the government’s effort to institutionalize quality management across the bureaucracy.

“When our research processes meet international benchmarks, the public can have greater confidence that the science guiding fisheries policies and programs is credible, timely, and responsive to the needs of our fisherfolk,” Agriculture Undersecretary and NFRDI Governing Board Chairperson Drusila Esther Bayate said.
NFRDI is the 202nd of 276 government agencies to secure ISO certification under Executive Order No. 605, which seeks to improve public sector performance.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the achievement supports the government’s push to modernize agriculture through innovation, stronger institutions, and evidence-based governance.
