Tunisian, 39, confesses to killing Puglia woman, 33

A 39-year-old Tunisian man with a

criminal record stabbed to death his 33-year-old factory-worker

wife in their home at Loreto in Marche Thursday night in Italy's

latest femicide.

The man, Sami Khemaies, confessed to murdering Luigia Fortunato,

originally from a town near Foggia in Puglia, at the height of a

row.

Last year parliament approved a law making femicide a specific

felony and mandating life imprisonment for those who commit it.

According to the anti-femicide national observatory 'Non una di

meno', 84 femicides and at least 78 attempted femicides were

recorded last year.

Loreto is a Catholic shrine where Jesus's house is believed to

have flown from the Holy Land.
