The family of a 34-year-old Romanian film and television professional who disappeared in Portugal more than a month ago is appealing for the public’s help in finding him.
Nicolae Andrei Singureanu, who previously appeared as a “well-known” contestant on Romania’s version of X Factor, has been missing since June 5.
According to his family, Andrei left the room where he was staying in Porto carrying only his mobile phone, leaving behind his passport, bank cards, laptop, clothes and all of his other personal belongings.
He had been due to return to Romania on June 13 and had told relatives he intended to travel to the Lagos area to carry out maintenance and painting work on a private boat.
The family also says Andrei had been contacted by a man of Romanian origin with German nationality, believed to be connected to a boat, shortly before he disappeared.
Police later traced the last known signal from his mobile phone to the Marateca area, near Palmela, in the Setúbal district. The phone has remained switched off ever since.
His disappearance has been officially reported to the Portuguese authorities and is being investigated by the PSP in Porto.
During the search, the family was briefly told that an unidentified body found in the Lisbon area could match Andrei’s age and description. Following official identification procedures, however, police confirmed that the deceased was not him.
His relatives say they have spent more than a month with no information about his whereabouts.
“Despite this relief, each new case of an unidentified person means days of anguish, fear, and uncertainty for his family. They have lived for more than a month without any news about his whereabouts. Andrei’s father searches for his son daily and has never stopped believing that he can find him alive,” the family says in a press statement.
Andrei’s relatives are asking anyone who may have seen him, spoken to him or encountered him anywhere in Portugal – including hospitals, marinas, farms, social shelters, eco-communities or spiritual retreats – to contact the Portuguese authorities or his family.
“Any information, however small, can be crucial,” the family said.
Standing around 1.85 metres tall, weighing approximately 60kg, with dark brown hair and brown eyes, Andrei was wearing light-coloured clothing when he disappeared, according to the appeal.
Anyone who has seen him or has information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the PSP, PJ, 112 emergency hotline, or his father, Mihai Singureanu, on +40 762 038 858.
