See Will Ferrell's Sons Magnus, Mattias Troll Him in Rare Interview
Will Ferrell knows all too well: There’s always room for activities.
Case in point: The Hawk star—whose new Netflix comedy series sees him star as a professional golfer in a bit of a competitive streak with his son—knows his way around a sport or two.
In fact, according to his sons Magnus Ferrell, 22, and Mattias Ferrell, 19, their dad has dribbled with them up and down the basketball court—though their huddle may have been short lived.
“By the time I was 8 years old,” Mattias joked to E! News’ Will Marfuggi in an exclusive interview at the Los Angeles premiere of The Hawk July 9, “I could destroy him in a one-[on]-one.”
And he wasn’t the only one who remembers it that way, as Magnus confirmed, “Took him to the post, bro.”
But to that declaration, the Saturday Night Live alum is calling timeout.
“8 years—that’s such a lie,” Will responded in a separate interview. “There’s no way.”
Indeed, Will—who also shares son Axel Ferrell, 16, with wife Viveca Paulin—can pinpoint when he decided to leave the court for good.
“When they got into high school,” the Step Brothers actor explained, “there were too many bony elbows and they would muscle me out of the way. And it hurt too much to play against them so I just kind of quit. I would say they never really beat me—I quit.”

But his new series isn’t the only project that Will has teed up, as he also worked with Kim Kardashian for a hilarious SKIMS campaign.
“We’ve gotten to know Kim a little bit through another project that we produced that she’s going to be starring in,” Will told E!. “And she’s just one of the more impressive people in terms of her business savvy but also she respects comedy so much.”
Which is why it was perfect for his Hawk character Lonnie to step into the spotlight for their venture—albeit, with a little less clothing.
“Of course, he’d want to show off his body and underwear, along with his tan lines,” Will teased. “So, had to jump at the chance.”
The Hawk will premiere July 16 on Netflix. Until then, keep reading for a look at more shows debuting this year…
