Singer was expected to have a "very tiny" role in what would have been her reunion with Scream Queens producer Ryan Murphy
July 10, 2026
Ariana Grande’s reunion with Ryan Murphy has been put on hold as the singer was forced to withdraw from her role on the upcoming season of American Horror Story due to her tour schedule.
Back on Halloween 2025, Grande revealed that she was among the cast of AHS’ 13th season, her first time appearing on the series; she previously teamed with Murphy for 2015’s Scream Queens.
However, a new teaser for Season 13 premiered recently, and while much of the cast was featured, Grande was noticeably absent. The Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported that’s because Grande was forced to exit the show due to conflicts with her current Eternal Sunshine tour. A rep for Grande did not immediately return Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
The upcoming season will still feature Murphy mainstays like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, and Jessica Lange, as well as director John Waters.
In November, Grande talked to Variety briefly about her role, saying it would likely be “a very tiny thing.”

“I know a little tiny bit. What I know I cannot say. I am coming into the world in a way that I don’t know much about yet,” Grande said. “I received a text, a very exciting text [from Murphy]. I’ll probably have a very tiny thing to do in it, but I’ll be grateful to be a part of it because I love everyone in it.”
Grande’s acting will next feature on the big screen in the upcoming comedy Focker-In-Law, the Meet the Parents sequel due out this fall.
