MANILA – Typhoon Inday (international name Bavi) has maintained its strength as it approaches Sakishima Islands in southern Japan before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said Saturday.
As of 3 a.m., Inday was located 500 km. northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 170 kph, and moving northwestward at 20 kph.
Inday is forecast to exit the PAR Saturday morning, traverse the East China Sea, and make landfall over the eastern coast of mainland China.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tropical Wind Signal No. 2 remains hoisted over the northern portion of Batanes.
The rest of Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, and the northern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Buguey, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Ballesteros, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, and Santa Praxedes) are still under Signal No. 1.
Stormy weather will prevail over Batanes while Cagayan will experience rains and gusty winds due to Inday.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will bring occasional rains over Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Batangas.
The rest of the Cordillera region, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Isabela will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to Typhoon Inday.
