
CEBU CITY, Philippines — A 58-year-old tricycle driver was shot dead by unidentified riding-in-tandem assailants along the national highway in Barangay Tapon, Dalaguete, Cebu, on Saturday morning, July 11.
Police have since launched a hot pursuit operation while investigators review closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and pursue other leads to identify the gunmen and determine the motive for the killing.
Dead on the spot
According to Police Master Sgt. Reynaldo Vidas of Dalaguete Municipal Police Station, the victim died on the spot after sustaining gunshot wounds to the head.

Based on the station’s initial report, although responders transported the victim to the nearest hospital for medical confirmation, the victim had already succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Vidas said the victim was immediately identified by his live-in partner and his child at the crime scene.
Police identified the victim as a resident of Barangay Cawayan, Dalaguete.
Shot while driving
Initial investigation showed that the victim was driving a tricycle with two passengers on board and was traveling southbound when two unidentified men riding a motorcycle, reportedly white in color, suddenly waylaid him around 10:40 a.m.
Witnesses told police that the suspects, who were wearing sweatshirts and full-face helmets, opened fire at the victim before fleeing.
Hot pursuit ongoing
As of this writing, investigators have yet to establish the motive for the attack.
Vidas said police personnel have been divided into separate teams to simultaneously conduct follow-up investigations, review available CCTV footage, and carry out hot pursuit operations.
Authorities are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information that could help identify the assailants to coordinate with Dalaguete Municipal Police Station.
